Following a busy Summer, our paddock is back to how it should be - just Princess Alice and her two Greyace Dartmoor friends Hyacinth and Hazel. I was thrilled when my cousin Kate from Devon said she would be interested in providing a home for the two ram lambs. One had been castrated and the other was still in tact, however, the two of them who incidentally were inseperable can look forward to a long and happy life of living together back nearer their Dartmoor roots. It could not be more of a happy ever after for them! When it came to the two ewe lambs we decided the best way forward was to advertise them on Preloved, and I am glad to say we successfully found them a lovely new home too. The gentleman who bought them wanted them as a surprise for his wife, who apparently was looking for some Greyface Dartmoor sheep because she loves their wool so much. So after promising they were only going to ever be pets and would be used for breeding purposes, they were dispatched at the weekend with their final resting place being large parkland near Harrogate - so we could not be happier. Whilst Hyacinth and Hazel missed their off spring and called for a few hours, they soon seemed to forget all about them and began enjoying their freedom incredibly quickly.
Over the past few weeks, as suggested by the vet, I have really been making a big big effort to befriend Alice by patting her and cuddling her so she flops to the ground almost in a deep sleep. This self induced coma, allows me to attempt to gently try and trim her rather long trotters. I am glad to say some progress has been made, an awful lot of tickling her tootsies does go on and not much trimming, however it is still early days, but the good news is she totally trusts me, so I am sure overtime, she will end up being beautifully pedicured. Of course I do know its going to take a lot more time yet, so will keep you posted!
