In Northamptonshire we are lucky enough to have a host of interesting historic houses and stately homes that are open to the public. Not only is there Castle Ashby which is just a stone's throw away from Pastures Farm, Grendon but Althorp House the home of the Diana memorial is only a 20 minute drive away. Rockingham Castle, Burghley, and Rushton Hall can all be reached by car in around 40 or so minutes. Although it is no longer possible to visit Castle Ashby house, a walk around the beautiful gardens is definitely recommended as is a visit to its rural shopping yard which features a lovely deli!
If it is shopping that you are really interested in, then again the delightful market town of Olney just over the border (six miles away) is well worth a visit, there is an abundance of independent "bijou" shops as well as a good selection of eateries all within walking distance of each other. Market Harborough, another delightful market town is approximately a twenty five minute drive and is also a great place to browse and while away some time.
As for the motor industry well we have the Grand Prix at Silverstone just down the road in one direction, and Rockingham Raceway in the other, not forgetting Santa Pod for drag racing and Brafield for stock car racing.
All this has just been off the top of my head, so I think you could say that there is plenty going on in Northamptonshire.
