Art in the Box was an initiative that was first introduced in 2011 and was repeated in 2012 and again in 2013. The idea of Art in the Box was that for one week only we transformed our loose boxes into miniature art galleries featuring work by local artists. Art in the Box was launched with a champagne reception preview, on Friday 1st July 2011 to which neighbouring farmers were invited. The idea of the preview was quite simply to inspire other farmers and encourage them to consider doing the same themselves another year. Art in the Box was open every afternoon during the first week of July, and was organised to help raise funds for the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI). All the artists who exhibited their work donated 20% to charity, and in the first year, we sold 12 paintings raising £1200 for RABI. The annual exhibition went on to raise a further £3,250 and won an award from RABI for its originality. It was hoped that other farmers up and down the country would follow suit and clear out a stable or loose box to host their own art exhibition for a week in aid of RABI, however sadly this has not yet happened, but you never know.
If anyone is thinking of hosting their own event and need a hand in organising it, then I would be delighted to help, please do get in touch I have copies of my letters, forms etc, which I would be more than happy to share.
